Position Purpose: The Senior Mechanical Engineer, reports to the Engineering Leader and is responsible for the design, evaluation, analysis and implementation of precision aerospace hydraulic and electro-mechanical control actuation system programs and projects. This position works under a low level of supervision. Independent technical decisions on work are covered by precedents; this position seeks direction/guidance only for novel or controversial problems. In addition, this position may participate in project-specific relationship building with Customers, Suppliers, individuals and organizations. Essential Functions:
Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of a project.
Devises new approaches to solving problems encountered.
Participates in and promotes process improvements within across the enterprise.
Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices and includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, non-standard materials & processes and difficult coordination requirements.
Provides direct support to sales operations and development by sharing information in the form of proposals, design reviews and concurrent engineering practices.
Independently troubleshoots and analyzes component/system problems.
Independently plan and performs component and sub-system tests, including write-up and reporting..
Dispositions hardware with minimum supervision.
Sets technical project direction for level 1 and 2 Engineers.
Generates, present and maintains components and sub-system design proposals with internal departments balancing customer specification requirements with manufacturing/cost implications.
Creates detail designs using 2D and 3D CAD systems - including GD&T, material selection, heat treat and specialized process specifications.
Documents/archives/retrieves drawings from the data management system.
Creates and maintains electronic BOMs within the MRP system.
Support Senior Project Engineers in Customer-focus reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR, etc.)

Work is generally performed in a normal office environment; however, the job may take the member into various areas of the plant where there is possible exposure to noise, chemical solutions, dust and temperatures above 80 degrees F.
Some travel required.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including presentations (internal, customers and management) and proposals.
Writes and communicates technical reports. Solid technical writing skills, procedures, reports, white papers,etc.).
Competent skills in complex problem solving and trouble-shooting.
Competent in the use of PCs and associated software.
Competent knowledge of MRP and PLM applications, such as electronic BOMs, Item Master/Item Description, NCRs, part tracking and allocations.
Ability to effectively operate and lead in the project team environment and effectively communicate with Customers.
Working knowledge of Aerospace, Industry and Military standards and the ability to apply complex groupings of standards into designs.
Competent use and understanding of FEA tools, basic use of DFR and DFC tools and methodologies; competent knowledge of Engineering quality systems (Product Life Cycle, engineering changes, configuration management, etc).
Solid ability to compute steady state results and performance analyses
Assist with development of department and organization procedures.
Complete understanding of component function and testing requirements. Understands manufacturing processes, drawings materials and processes and GT&T as well as shop standards and procedures and how they impact designs.
Effective time management skills.
Education or Formal Training:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required.
Experience Required: Greater than 4 years in related field or entry level PhD required.
