This position supports the R&D Pilot Engineering department. This role will become fluent in all client manufacturing requirements based upon New Product Development (NPD) product designs, including the desired output of the machinery to be automated, the design of the components to be manufactured, the sequence of the machine operations and total time that the operational process requires. The CNC program created to control the machinery will be based on these factors. This role will be tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of all CNC machines and troubleshooting any problems that arise. This position also maintains a centralized program database and detailed records on all CNC machines. Additional duties may include training and collaborating with other engineers, researching the latest in technological advancements and fielding technical design inquiries. Performs all other duties as required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Validate new product designs and developments to ensure the robustness of the new products
  • Maintain a solid understanding of CAD file structures and their relations to Bill of Materials.
  • Business acumen with the new product design implications of cost and decision; research and implement emerging MFG methods and processes to reduce the waste and material costs.
  • Align work objectively with the company strategic goals.
  • Program, set up, produce, and inspect machined components of department CNC equipment. (Twin Spindle Single Turret CNC 7 Axis Lathe, 4 Axis VMC w/Probe).
  • Interpret Engineered Drawings and Specifications.
  • Understand and Operate Precision measuring equipment.
  • Maximize CNC Machine Tool Performance and Capability.
  • Maintain Standard Cutting Tool Inventory. Continually improve Standard tool affectivity.
  • Collaborate with engineering personal to understand requirements and optimize production methods.
  • Understand and employ optimum cutting conditions for the materials specified.
  • Preform General Equipment Preventative Maintenance tasks.

    EDUCATION:

    Bachelor s Degree or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering or applicable experience required.

    EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 5 + years of experience in CNC programming, set-up and operation of CNC machining equipment including CAM programming and CAD knowledge.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM Software, FEA and MS Project, EdgeCam/Inventor (a plus)
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Innovative, confident and knowledgeable of statistical analysis and design experiments

    *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. This role consists of extended periods of sitting, standing, stooping and walking and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. This position requires the ability to move throughout the plant, office areas, and up and down stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position also required the ability to follow safety procedures including: PPE (Safety Glasses, Safety Shoes), Potential Hazards - Bending and Ergonomics - Follow correct lifting procedures.

    *WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work in office environment with frequent exposure to a manufacturing/factory environment
  • May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting.
  • Travel: Less than 10%
