WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Adrian site, we are currently looking for a Silicone Processing Engineer to join our growing team.
The Silicone Processing Engineer will be responsible for providing silicone elastomer processing expertise for team members and customers. The role will focus on silicone injection molding but will also advise on adjacent silicone processing technologies (extrusion, coating, 3D printing). The Silicone Processing Engineer will train team members and customers and actively promote WACKER's silicone portfolio through external conferences and speaking engagements
Job Responsibilities Demonstrates in-depth understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts in manufacturing process technology. Has expert knowledge in silicone injection molding and adjacent silicone processing technologies such as extrusion, textile coating, 3D printing Manages and operates injection molding machines to evaluate silicone products regarding their processability by applying scientific molding principles including the analysis of cycle time efficiencies, cavitation, scrap reduction, and establishment of optimal processing parameters Provides technology input to guide R&D and Technical Service in silicone product design and development for processability and supports new products introductions Consults Technical Service, Quality Control, Sales, and Production in the discussion of customer complaints and quality notifications Trains, mentors, and counsels team members and customers in silicone processing technology Provides silicone processing expertise and related engineering support in discussion with customers; offers troubleshooting and support for processing related customer inquiries Maintains and grows a network with vendors of silicone processing equipment and mold makers Promotes WACKER's silicone portfolio through speaking engagements at technical conferences and trade shows
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or related technical discipline, alternatively Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field with experience in industry engineering. Masters degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in commercial plastics processing environment or related fields Experience with Statistical Analysis and Design of Experiments methodology is preferred Six Sigma Green Belt certification is desirable Knowledge and application of scientific molding principles Strong analytical and empirical skills Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Customer service skills Excellent communication skills, demonstrated leadership ability and ability to train others* The salary listed in the header is an estimate based on salary data for similar jobs in the same area.
