Full-Time Job Description: Vertex Pharmaceuticals is currently searching for a talented, highly motivated and creative bench research scientist to join a dynamic research team dedicated to discovering new therapeutic agents for serious renal diseases. Candidates will report directly to the project leader. This position will focus on understanding molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease using advanced cell engineering and cell biological techniques. The applicant should have a strong background in understanding membrane and cell biology and the downstream second messenger signaling pathways. The applicant will be integrated into a fast-paced drug discovery team that includes cell biologists, pharmacologists, biochemists, structural biologists, medicinal chemists and drug metabolism experts. Additional duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Plan, and direct research efforts of several research projects. Develop and manage relationships with potential academic advisors and research partners. Help to set strategy and be an integral part of research projects from ideation to go/ no go decision points. Key Responsibilities:Independently design and execute key studies to understand disease biology, elucidate mechanism of action at the molecular and cellular level, and support drug discovery projectsPerform advanced/complex experimental troubleshootingCritically analyze and interpret complex data, and effectively document and communicate results to a variety of audiencesContribute effectively to the projects in a multi-disciplinary team environmentApply and master several techniques in Cell Biology (cell/tissue cultures) and Molecular Biology (quantification of gene expression, mutagenesis studies, etc.)Contribute significantly to Microscopy (Immunofluorescence and/or High Content Imaging) and/or Flow cytometry experimentsImplement a strategy to discover novel therapeutic agents in several therapeutic areas to support drug discovery programsProvide strong scientific and technical leadership, utilizing extensive technical expertise in new technology/techniques to support drug discoveryWork effectively with colleagues from cross-functional disciplines (Chemistry, pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology)LI-BS1 Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D./Post Doc in in Cellular, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or any related field and 5 years of experience in drug discovery in a pharmaceutical/ biotechnology settingOther Requirements:Ability to achieve goals within an allotted timeframe, and deliver high quality results;Strong analytical capabilities and scientific critical judgmentAbility to work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment,Strong communication skills and ability to work cross functionally within teams.
