Application Engineer
Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC Tech USA is actively seeking candidates for an Application Engineer opening with our client, a local company that specializes in automation for wastewater systems. This a direct hire position that can be based out of Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC. Summary of Responsibilities
  • Develops application software to meet requirements of project contractual documents while adhering to company's Project Methodology.
  • Application Engineers with HMI expertise set up the Customer computer system hardware and network, configure the SCADA application software, perform startup and testing, and provide training.
  • Application Engineers with PLC expertise develop application control software, perform startup and testing, and provide training.
  • Description of Duties
  • Receives project requirements and direction through meetings with the Regional or Project Manager and review of the contract documents.
  • Develops Human-Machine Interface (HMI) application software per the contract specifications using Third-Party Software Development Packages, such as Wonderware’s InTouch, Rockwell Software’s RSView, and Intellution’s IFIX.
  • Develops Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs based on the contract documents and Control Narrative using the PLC manufacturer’s Programming Software.
  • Sets up the project system servers, workstations, operating system, networks, PLCs, and peripheral equipment at the job site.
  • Installs all company developed application software and required vendor software, and verifies their proper execution.
  • Interfaces company supplied equipment to third-party vendor systems via industrial communication protocols, when applicable.
  • Performs in-house Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), when required.
  • Develops customized Reports per the Owners requirements.
  • Demonstrates overall system functionality to the Owner including hardware, software, networks, and any radio communications
  • Provides training to operators, supervisors, and administrative personnel.
  • Generates and gathers all required final project documentation.
  • Provides technical assistance to Customers.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in HMI or PLC programming, preferably in the Water & Wastewater industry.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, networks, and office software products are required.

  • Experience with and extensive knowledge of Allen-Bradley and Modicon hardware and software, Wonderware or Intellution, and radio communications is desirable.

  • Good communications skills and the ability to work well with other are essential.

  • Regular travel is required (up to 50%) to start up, test, and demonstrate the SCADA HMI and PLC control systems.
