We are looking for a passionate engineering manager to join our fraud product area. Our mission is to accelerate Spotify's growth with a trusted platform that provides insights and data to our partners. The work we do to detect, prevent, and mitigate unwanted behavior on our platform is a key component of our ambitious goals.

This position will report to the Product Area Engineering Director and is based in New York, with the opportunity to travel to other R&D offices.

You will be leading a diverse team of data scientists and fraud researchers that use machine learning, data engineering, and a deep theoretical understanding to solve some of the most advanced and important data driven problems we face. For example:

* Evolve and scale out fraud detection and analytics platform
* Develop and/or enhance event-based detection methods that continuously adapt to ever-shifting user behaviours
* Consistently consume and produce massive amounts of data while optimising for speed, accuracy and quality
* Innovate our data products to create a single coherent platform with sources of truth that serve a plethora of stakeholders from Spotify feature teams to our finance organization

As an engineering manager you will join the product area's leadership team and have a direct impact on the overall positioning and mission of the product area. You will represent an important component of the organization and engage with technical partners and stakeholders across Spotify, enable our team success, and drive thought leadership in our community.

What you will do

* Lead a high performance team of 5 to 8 cross-discipline data scientists and fraud researchers, supporting with career development and technical mentorship.
* Partner with product management to formulate the technical vision, strategy and roadmap for the platforms that power our fraud detection and mitigation capabilities.
* Make sure that we can deliver what we promise with high quality.
* Work closely with partners and senior leadership to make sure that we align our efforts for the company's short- and long-term goals.
* Be an active voice in our engineering and data science community across Spotify.
* Be an active partner to your product and engineering peers as part of an effective thought leadership team for the product area.

Who you are

* You have 2+ years of people management skills and know how to lead and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers and data scientists.
* You care about data-driven development, reliability, responsible experimentation and have led large scale engineering efforts.
* You have a passion for mentoring and coaching highly collaborative teams.
* You have a data science or engineering background and know how to express your ideas in code.
* You have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
* You know where the consumer tech industry and trends are heading and understand trade-offs of existing solutions.
* Desired experience:
* An MS in CS, Machine Learning, Operational research, Statistics or in a highly quantitative field. PhD is a plus
* 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning or data engineering
* 2+ years of experience in a fraud or security discipline
