Our team is seeking a highly motivated electronics engineer\\. Your primary focus will be electrical hardware design of specialized RF communications systems for National Security applications\\. You may be required to make occasional travel of within the Continental U\\.S\\. Projects range from very urgent, quick reaction requests in response to real\\-world driven needs to longer term, life\\-critical efforts with rigorous development requirements\\. You will become a member of a multi\\-discipline, success oriented high\\-performance team\\.
On any given day you could be called on to:
+ Research, develop, analyze and/or field test RF systems
+ RF system conceptualization
+ Requirements development
+ Design and simulate analog, RF, digital, and mixed signal circuits
+ Own the PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly process
+ Test/tune RF components and circuits
+ Specify and perform/oversee the purchase of parts
+ Design, assemble, test, and troubleshoot embedded electronics systems and cables
+ Develop test/acceptance procedures and document design definition
+ Document and oversee the transition of designs to 3rd party production partners
+ You will have a masters degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience \\(bachelors degree plus 4 years\\) to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
+ Your background includes experience with embedded electronics design
+ You possess experience with microwave and antenna/EM applications
+ You can obtain a DOE Q security clearance with SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph
Your background should also include:
+ You bring experience with, or education in, general test and measurement equipment \\(oscilloscopes, DVM, logic analyzers\\) and RF test equipment \\(network analyzer, spectrum analyzer\\)
+ Experience designing RF electronics incorporating elements such as RF filters, power amplifiers, matching networks, etc\\.
+ Knowledge and proficiency in low signal\\-to\\-noise level communication system designs
+ Experience designing and tuning unique form\\-factor antennas
+ Mixed signal digital and analog hardware design including schematic capture and layout of high density printed wiring assemblies
+ Experience controlling RF communication transceiver chips through software and firmware while optimizing their performance
+ Hardware level signal processing experience \\(FPGA, DSP, GPU\\)
+ Ability to plan, coordinate, and document field tests
+ Familiarity with antenna/array measurement techniques on compact and/or near\\-field ranges, and experience in the use of RF/microwave test equipment for radiation pattern characterization
+ Experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, FEKO, IE3D, etc\\.
+ Experience or familiarity with the following software: Python, C/C\\+\\+, VHDL, GNU Radio, and Matlab/Simulink or equivalent is desirable
+ Knowledge of high\\-level programming language\\(s\\)
+ Embedded firmware and software familiarity
+ Knowledge of RF, Digital Communications, radar, and/or EW systems and principles
+ Ability to work effectively on both small and large development teams \\(two\\-to\\-eight members\\)
+ Good communication and documentation skills

The RF & Systems Electronics Center \\(Center 5300\\) provides key electronics systems work to a wide variety of nuclear weapons, space, intelligence and military programs across Sandia and the Nation\\. The Advanced Special Communications Systems department \\(5335\\) strives to Develop terrestrial, airborne, and space based special communications systems for use in surveillance and reconnaissance, Tagging Tracking and Locating \\(TTL\\), and the relay/detection/characterization of RF signals present in challenging environments\\. Our customers include a variety of government organizations including the Intelligence Community and those conducting special operations missions\\. Our staff members have a diverse skills base including microwave circuit design, antenna design, signal analysis, digital signal processing, embedded software, and digital FPGA designs\\. Applications include long and short\\-range communications and transponder systems, typically utilizing ultra\\-low power signaling techniques\\. Position requires a Department of Energy \\(DOE\\) granted Q\\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\\.
