JOB SUMMARY:The Die Design Engineer is responsible to continuously work with product engineering, stamping, process engineering and the tool shop when designing a progressive die.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Onsite regular, reliable attendance is required. Interface with all other disciplines, such as product, assembly, plating and manufacturing engineering to ensure that new or existing modified tooling is compatible with the process, and that the tool is achieving the lowest stamping cost and the highest quality.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Investigate and estimate the most cost effective die design for a given product.

Working together with the shop, he must use correct material construction and available die standard designs.

He must be very fluent in designing dies using the CAD system.

Takes initiative - together with product design, stamping process, assembly process and QA engineers - to do an FMEA analysis of the tool before it has been released for fabrication and build.

Has direct responsibility for recommending/establishing the min/max inventory levels for perishable tools for the die that he is designing.

Always searches for improvement of die design technology and must be aware of the state-of-the-art technology available, etc.

Must carry responsibility, via follow-up, to ensure that dies contracted by him at a vendor are meeting die design specifications, timing and cost.



Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

High School Diploma or its equivalent

Completion of tooling apprenticeship program, technical school, and/or desirably a college degree in mechanical engineering and at least 5 years experience in Solidworks design, fabrication and building of progressive dies.

Autocad/Draftsite experience preferred.

Office Software Suite experience a must.

Excellent background in the design of progressively, non-corrosive metal (brass, phos- bronze, beryllium copper, etc.) blanking and forming technology.

Tool and Die background in thin metal progressive hi-speed stamping a must.

Analytical capability and knowledge of non-corrosive metal behavior during blanking and forming is a must.

Must be able to demonstrate customer communication skills and continuous Improvement skills.
