About the JobDo you enjoy pushing technology to grow from early stage prototype to polished product? Phylagen is seeking a Process/Automation Engineer to lead our sampling and lab protocol scaling efforts. In this role, you will lead Phylagen's lab automation and consumable design. While a member of the Genomics team, you will work closely with the commercial and informatics teams to build a system from sample to sequencer which scales with business volume and is flexible to unique customer requests.About PhylagenPhylagen, Inc. is a data analytics company leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to harness the vast, unseen world of microbiomes. The environmental microbiome consists of trillions of interacting bacteria, fungi, and pollen collectively present in dust that inhabit every inch of the world. They not only influence our health and well-being, they also provide information about the origin of objects and raw materials.Phylagen is building a data platform by digitizing the DNA of microbiomes found in a place or on an object and creating a unique, identifiable fingerprint. This fingerprint is then applied to a variety of solutions in global supply chains for customers ranging from farmers to retail brands to governments. Phylagen's mission is to turn dust into data thereby promoting a new level of global supply chain transparency using the environmental microbiome as a data platform.Responsibilities Scale Phylagen's evolving sample collection and lab processes to enable explosive growth of the businessAutomate existing and future lab protocols to meet volume demands using lab automation systemsCollaborate with our commercial, informatics, and lab teams to design scalable sampling systemsWork cross-functionally within Phylagen, and with external vendors to identify and/or develop any consumables required for process scaling. Integrate consumables and information tracking systems with lab processesQualificationsAt least 5 years of hands-on lab automation or systems engineering experienceDeeply familiar with Next Generation Sequencing systems, PCR and molecular biology lab techniquesExperience scaling sequencing as a serviceComfortable managing external vendors and contractorsExperience with consumable designAbility to have a high-level view of projects while doing hands-on workStrong communicatorBS or higher in relevant science, engineering, or technology fieldProven ability to lead automation projectsPrior experience in an early-stage start-up or rapidly growing environment
