Job Summary:

TheIndustrial Applications Engineer (IAE) helps PCI adapt products andcapabilities to customer applications in the industrial sector.The IAE works with customers identified bythe Industrial Sales Manager, understanding their technical requirements, explainingthe capabilities of PCI, and helping to draft and confirm customer requiredspecifications.The IAE will travel 33-50%of the time and would be based at PCI Headquarters located in Montgomeryville,PA or a home-based office in the Mid-Atlantic area for the other times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

TheIndustrial Application Engineer (IAE) serves as the primary technical interfacebetween PCI’s motion control customers and PCI’s engineering staff as a keymember of the selling team.The IndustrialApplication Engineer uses his or her expertise in motion control to solve customermotor control challenges, which requires strong cross domain knowledge in theareas of kinematics, various motor types, feedback mechanisms, and a range offieldbuses and communication protocols. The IAE uses his or her knowledge ofPCI products and technologies to configure technically and financially viablesolutions for customer applications and assist in selling those solutions. The IndustrialApplication Engineer also provides post-sales technical support includingproduct installation, training and troubleshooting.

1.UnderstandsCustomer Specifications – 30%

1.1Helps define and document customerapplication requirements

1.2 Presents PCI capabilities and solutions to potential customers in responseto stated or observed needs

1.3Contributes as a member of the selling teamin setting and implementing sales strategies

2.Workswith Engineering to create solutions – 30%

2.1Works with Engineering to create viabletechnical solutions using standard and custom PCI products

2.2 Provides customers’ perspective to the design team and becomes familiarwith product operation

2.3 Assists in the preparation of costing, margin and pricing analyses

3. Provides post-sale technical supportto customers -30%

3.1Provides installation support, training, andtroubleshooting

3.2Supports development of User Manuals withcontent on set-up, operation and troubleshooting

3.3 Provides support via phone, email or (asnecessary) Face-to-face (F2F)

4.Administrativeresponsibilities – 10%

4.1Travel planning, expense reporting

4.2Preparing and submitting customer visitreports

·Maintain a clean, safe work area incompliance with company and OSHA standards

·BS Electrical Engineering


·Minimum 3-5 years’ experience withmotion control applications

·Experience with PWM amplifiers andother types of motor drives

·Demonstrated track record effectivelybuilding relationships with (external) customers and internal sales andengineering colleagues

PreferredEducation and Experience:

·Business degree desirable but notrequired

·Project Management experience helpfulbut not required


·Valid State Driver’s License

Knowledge,Skills, Abilities, Characteristics

A. Knowledge:

·Familiarity with motion control,motors, feedback devices and automation applications.

  • Familiarity with fieldbuses Including CAN and EtherCAT
  • Knowledge of high power PWM amplifiers and non-motor related applications is a plus.
  • B. Skills:

    ·Strong, concise written and verbalcommunication skills

    ·Proficiency with MS Office tools

    ·Project management; proficiency withMicrosoft Project is strongly desired

    C. Abilities:

    ·Ability to travel independently, byland and air, domestically and internationally

    ·Ability to plan and execute travelschedule, including coordinating customer visits, transportation, and lodging

    ·Self-starter who can work withoutclose supervision

  • Positive and helpful attitude to demonstrate to customers that PCI cares about their business
  • ·Service-oriented with a bias towardssolving customer problems with urgency

    ·Able to work across all departmentsand levels of the company
