Postdoctoral Position in Microbiology and Chemistry

A postdoctoral position in microbiology and chemistry is available in the laboratory of Mei X. Wu, MD, PhD, at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). We seek a highly motivated and qualified candidate with a PhD or PhD/MD to develop novel modalities to control infections by multi-drug resistant microbes. We are exploring photocatalytic conversion of non-bactericide phytochemicals to strong bactericidal compounds within bacteria only.

In addition, the Wu laboratory works on biomimetic nanoparticles as mucosal adjuvants for universal influenza vaccines, antibody engineering for sample-free blood biomarker detection, and photobiomodulation-mediated regeneration to address adverse side effects caused by cancer chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Massachusetts General Hospital is a major Boston teaching hospital and teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. The postdoctoral fellow will be eligible to apply for an appointment at Harvard Medical School and will have access to a range of training opportunities available via both MGH and HMS. Salary will be calculated according to the NIH/NRSA PGY salary scale in effect at the time of appointment.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a PhD or PhD/MD degree with strong background in both microbiology and chemistry demonstrated by strong publications. Preference will be given to an individual who can work independently and is able to write manuscript and scientific reports at a high level. The position also requires experience in working with small animals.
