We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic engineer with a high level of safety awareness in fabrication and characterization to support our fiber R&D team in Somerset, NJ. The successful applicant will work in a driven team to fabricate and measure novel types of optical fiber assemblies. The primary task involves development of photonic bandgap fiber which requires fabrication and assembly of arrays of many glass capillaries. Other roles will include setting up new capabilities for manufacturing and measuring optical fibers, specifically pertaining to problem solving origins of poor performance. There is significant potential for job growth in areas including automation and process engineering. Qualified candidates must have a bachelor s degree or higher, preferably in an optics or materials related field. Other competencies and experience the successful candidate will have include: Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills. A background in fundamental optics is beneficialCareful attention to cleanliness, precision and detail will be essentialExperience in programming and automation of hardware is beneficial. Sound documentation processes and practice is essential. Writing and presenting results to the team will be expected. Demonstrate effective communications (verbal, written) skills. Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel. Maintain discretion when working with confidential and proprietary information.
