The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for motivated engineers to join the Corporate Fire Protection Office. A willingness to learn fire protection or to broaden ones understanding of fire protection is essential. This position will provide opportunities to engage regularly with employees of different backgrounds across each of the company's 4 sites. The candidate will be part of a team of experienced engineers forming the 4-site Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Corporate Fire Protection Office. Team members may be located at any of the 4 company sites. Job responsibilities include: The Corporate Fire Protection Office is responsible for reviewing and maintaining cognizance of Naval Reactors (NR) fire protection requirements to ensure compliant and reliable site fire protection facility infrastructure; the NR fire protection requirements include applicable fire protection and other life safety requirements derived from the Department of Energy (DOE), International Code Council (ICC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and OSHA. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the NR Fire Protection Requirements Manual (NR-FPRM). Review technical recommendations submitted from the 4 sites, including review of waivers, equivalencies, fire hazard analysis, and baseline needs assessments. Coordinate and support site implementation of corporate fire protection and life safety design, operations, and maintenance requirements. Provide technical guidance on facility life safety and hazardous material controls aspects to site fire protection, facility design, and construction staff. Lead and participate in 4-site fire protection quarterly meetings and the annual NNL fire protection review.
Job Requirements BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years relevant experience; or MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years relevant experience
Job Preferred Skills BS or MS degree in fire protection, mechanical, or electrical engineering Relevant fire protection experience in facilities engineering, maintenance, and/or operations Knowledge and experience in reviewing, comprehending, interpreting, and implementing multiple sets of federal codes and standards including ICC, NFPA, and OSHA Familiarity with DOE fire protection requirements Qualified Fire Protection Engineer through successful completion of the professional fire protection engineering exam or equal experience
