The Next Generation Training Program (NGTP) is hiring an Advanced/Senior Training Engineer to be responsible for the design, development, and project management of the training plan and curriculum for the NGTP, a projected multi-billion dollar Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Program (NNPTP) initiative that will redesign the training program with updated training technologies and methodologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and submitting program and project level recommendations regarding the training structure and content of the NGTP. Examples of current and future work efforts include recommending the location for the NGTP, defining training objectives and criteria, outlining the strategy for on-watch and off-watch training, and recommending the type (critical reactor plants or simulation training platforms) and number of trainers that will be used in the NGTP. This will require the successful candidate to work with a team of experienced Naval Nuclear Laboratory employees as well as coordinating with multiple Naval Reactors Program stakeholders within and outside of the Naval Training strategic area. Additionally, this will require the successful candidate to work at the initial stages of program and project level work efforts and to be responsible for contributing to the development of early program and project level critical decisions. Other responsibilities include interfacing with Navy subject matter experts and simulation engineers to create detailed technical and functional requirements to establish the basis for future simulation technologies and working with project managers to build and maintain program and project level schedules.

The NGTP unit is a newly formed group that is responsible for leading the development of the NGTP and the related training technologies and methodologies that will sustain the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) with new nuclear operators starting in approximately 2035 and beyond. The NGTP may be an all simulation training program, or it may require a new generation of critical training platforms augmented with simulation technologies. Regardless, the new training technologies and methodologies designed for the NGTP will provide increased training effectiveness, fidelity, and reliability as compared to today's training program. This project provides a unique opportunity for team members to have a significant, enduring impact on the Sailors that operate the Navy's nuclear powered ships.

Job Requirements

Advanced:

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; or
  • BS degree in Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university with qualification as a Naval Nuclear Plant Operator and a minimum of four years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; and
  • Nuclear experience (engineer qualification or senior enlisted leadership experience) on Virginia class submarines
  • Senior:

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; or
  • BS degree in Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university with qualification as a Naval Nuclear Plant Operator and a minimum of six years relevant experience based on exceptional performance trend; and
  • Nuclear experience (engineer qualification or senior enlisted leadership experience) on Virginia class submarines
  • Job Preferred Skills

  • Active DOE security clearance
  • Qualification through the Naval Reactors nuclear training program
  • Prior experience at a Nuclear Power Training Unit
  • Strong communication and team building skills with demonstrated successful experience working in a collaborative environment
