Summary

The Environmental Engineer position is located in the following locations: Polacca, AZ, Lakside, AZ, and Winterhaven, CA . This position works under the Division of Sanitation Facilities and Construction. The Environmental Engineer works on all phases of projects pertaining to improving environmental conditions to include: planning, design, and construction of sanitation facilities construction projects and reports to District Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, design, and construction of sanitation facilities construction projects on assigned reservations.
  • Performs planning in preparation for sanitation facilities construction including initial discussions with tribal organizations, review and analysis of design alternative, capital and operating cost comparisons, house or subdivision site evaluation and approval, project summary and environmental compliance preparation, project scheduling and management of project funds.
  • Responsible for complete scheduling all phases of sanitation projects including multiple contracts resulting in timely construction of sanitation facilities.
  • Initiates detailed engineering designs including plans and specifications and performs topographic and alignments surveys with modem surveying equipment.
  • Prepares operation and maintenance manuals for community facilities mid gives instructions to system operators regarding proper operation and maintenance of the facilities.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

    To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following Basic Requirements:

    Engineering Degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR

    Completion of a degree in professional engineering from a foreign institution that has been accepted as equivalent to a conventional U.S. higher education program. OR

    Possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering as demonstrated by passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination or the written test required for professional registration; AND , completion of a bachelor`s degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college/university that included at least 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. OR

    Possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering which includes at least 60 semester/90quarter hours in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included differential and integral calculus. All courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. OR

    Possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering that includes a bachelor`s degree in a related curriculum (engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), AND at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0819-11:
    To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, you must meet one of the following qualifications:

    At least (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service obtained in either private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Designing new or improved sanitation facilities such as water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and wastewater pumping stations, sanitary sewer collection systems, water distribution systems, and water supply facilities; perform contract management and oversight of sanitation project requirements; evaluate sanitation facility designs and specifications to ensure conformance with project requirements and budget; and visit work sites to observe condition of sanitation facilities. OR

    Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in a related field. OR

    Possess a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
