Our client a global automotive manufacturing company, is looking for a Director of Engineering to join their team. This position will be overseeing a handful of plants between WI, West MI and the Detroit area. The position will be based out of the Detroit area but will involve significant travel to the other locations. Therefore, this position could be located in WI or MI.
Position will involve: Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Engineering and Technology will oversee the operation and administration of all engineering activity, ensuring all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes meet established objectives. The Director of Engineering and Technology will utilize best practice engineering methods and provide expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Partnering with the Leadership, Sales, and Operations teams, the Director of Engineering and Technology will lead continuous improvement efforts, apply new technologies to increase efficiencies, and meet growth targets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the engineering teams, setting strategic goals for standardization, managing successful implementations, and guiding continuous improvement initiatives Provide counsel regarding appropriate course of action for company expansion, operations, consolidation, engineering layouts, equipment selection, ergonomics, technical training, and optimization of resource utilization to improve the companies competitive position Recommend methods for improving efficiency and reducing waste, such as reorganization of workflow, relocating equipment, and restructuring job duties Recommend new technologies, process improvements, and new techniques to drive continued reductions in manufacturing costs Critically review technical and cost proposals to ensure feasibility and implementation of best options Review and approve design and development of new product applications and conduct internal and customer attended design reviews Lead and conduct readiness reviews Oversee the project management process and delivery timelines to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget Analyze and develop standards, statistical analysis and planning to improve productivity, quality, safety, and service levels Maintain a high level of customer service and organizational support Work closely with all organizational cross-functional teams Special projects as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in an Engineering related field 10+ years of Tier 1 automotive manufacturing experience 6+ years of experience in a leadership position Excellent verbal and written communication skills with team members, peers, vendors and customers Thorough understanding of engineering principles, functions, terminology, software systems, operating systems, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems Proven track record of developing and implementing engineering processes and best practices Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives Ability to effectively manage change
