HDR is currently looking for an Assistant Project Manager - Transmission to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Southern California. Primary Responsibilities The primary duties of the Assistant Project Manager - Transmission include performing project engineering functions to execute projects of basic to medium complexity and provide assistance to project managers and senior project managers to successfully complete projects with regard to Scope, Schedule and Budget. The APM should have a greater interaction with clients than the technical aspects of projects and may assist in developing and writing project proposals, project scopes and budgets. An APM is also engaged in a mentoring/training relationship with a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager and assists with some or all project management duties, including project budgets, scheduling, resource management, and executing quality control plans on projects they are assigned. May perform some or all marketing activities, including proposal components such as scope, budget, and schedule development for projects they will be assigned. This individual will also be responsible for quality control reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis within their area of experience/expertise. Tasks may include:
Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Conducting analyses to develop design options, performing modeling and/or calculations
Assisting with preparing cost estimates, specifications, and or written reports
Function as technical specialist or project manager on small to medium single-discipline projects but project management is not the sole focus of this position
Supporting the development of new and existing Power Delivery clients
Participate in field reviews or construction observation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering preferred).
Engineer in Training (EIT) and active commitment to obtain P.E. License required.
Experience using PLS-CADD, structure analysis, project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, optimization, specifications and drawings, and other engineering documents required for power transmission line projects
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Some travel may be required.
Experience in transmission/distribution fields preferred.
Experience and client relationships in Southern California preferred.
Preference will be given to local candidates.
National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge is desired
4+ years of experience designing Power Delivery projects preferred.
Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
