Role Summary:

The Machining & Fabrication Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for mentoring suppliers in the application of quality requirements and tools and managing quality performance for assigned engines and hardware suppliers. You will track metrics and work quality improvement plans addressing problem areas. You will review and approve quality plans, investigate quality escapes to provide root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective actions are taken.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Machining & Fabrication Supplier Quality Engineer will:

Includes supplier qualifications, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence

Works with allocated key suppliers to improve Quality and Delivery metrics to target levels

Serves as Subject Matter Expert within Sourcing CCC (Buyer, Contract Administrator, and SQE) for GE Aviation Quality System Requirements, including (but not limited to) S-1000, S-1001, S-1002

Monitors, reviews, and approves supplier completion of quality system requirements and ensures compliance for product release (e.g., FAI, Source Substantiation, etc.)

Leads supplier investigations, develops corrective actions, and validates effective implementation for quality concerns / issues / escapes

Presents results to reviewing authorities

Owns supplier improvement plans related to nonconformances (MRB & QEM) and drives reductions through manufacturing improvements and engineering design changes

Uses data analytics to identify risks and opportunities for quality improvement and escape prevention

Provides onsite support at suppliers, as needed (approximately 25-35% travel)

Additionally, the Machining & Fabrication Supplier Quality Engineer may also be responsible for:

Includes both Supplier Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Development

Includes supplier qualifications, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence

SQEs have various levels of differentiation which are related to level of technical understanding of engineering drawings and ability to manage vendorsNegotiates the best commercial and technical package for procurement requirements

Works with allocated key suppliers to improve On Time Delivery and Quality statistics to target levels

Communicates across direct organization

Presents to senior leaders (EB and SEB) in specific purchasing space and on cross functional teams on how purchasing contributes to overall strategy

Assists in the continuous development of the Procurement function towards best practice

Identifies and delivers value-adding opportunities from the supply chain

Advises Functional managers or other Functions regarding approaches, processes and procedures within own field

Has a role as a project leader of medium sized projects or is a major contributor to bigger projects

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (Or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Sourcing)

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Supplier Quality Engineering or Manufacturing

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):

Ability and willingness to travel about 25-35% to provide onsite support at suppliers, as needed

Desired Characteristics:

Engineering degree from an accredited university or college preferred

Basic understanding of GE Aviation Engines Quality Management System (policies, procedures, and support tools / systems)

Ability to review documentation and witness supplier practices to determine if sound manufacturing and inspection principles are in place (e.g., proper use of datums for fixturing, appropriate restraining conditions for inspection, etc.)

Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

Demonstrated ability to lead and support multiple projects simultaneously

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to influence others and lead small teams
