Job Description (Peptides, Biochemistry, Biomaterials in Tissue Engineering)
This individual will be part of our peptide biomaterials discovery program, and responsible for performing analytical chemistry, new peptide designs, purification, materials characterization, new biomaterials development, quality control, and project management.
Essential Job Responsibilities (Peptides, Biochemistry, Biomaterials in Tissue Engineering)Rational design of peptides, synthesis, purification, and characterizationRoutine performance of quality control tests using HPLC, LCMS, rheometry, circular dichroism, NMR, MALDI-TOF MS, FTIR, and Cryo-TEMPerform three-dimensional in vitro mammalian cell culture experiments to assess cell viability/ toxicity, proliferation, and migration in peptide biomaterialsFamiliar with biomaterials in tissue regeneration technologies using in vivo animal models, post processing of samples (molecular biology, histopathology)Establish and manage peptide manufacturing scale up, quality control testing studies with partners and internally.Manage collaborations with academic, industry partnersCoordinate and manage in vivo feasibility testing studies with academic and contract research organizationsApply for federal funding: NIH, NSF, BARDA, and DoDPresent work at key conferences and journal articlesImplement project management practices for tracking and reporting progress and milestone achievements Routine documentation of results in laboratory notebooks & databases and prepare technical reports along with analyzing, summarizing and presenting experimental results to team/senior management, and at conferencesResponsible for ordering lab supplies, inventory management, budget tracking and reporting to senior managementHighly collaborative, and incredibly effective in communicationEducation, Skills and Experience (Peptides, Biochemistry, Biomaterials in Tissue Engineering)PhD in peptide chemistry, biochemist, protein chemistryResearch in peptide and protein based biomaterials for tissue engineeringExcellent lab skills when it comes to peptide design, chemistry, analytical chemistry and biomaterials testingPrior research involving peptide materials, antimicrobial peptides, and design of novel peptidesOver 5 years prior research experience involving peptide synthesis, purification (HPLC and LCMS)over 3 years prior research experience involving materials characterization using spectroscopy techniques : circular dichroism , NMR, MALDI-TOF MS, FTIR, UV-Visover 2 years prior research experience involving materials characterization using microscopy and imaging techniques : Cyro-TEM , SEM, fluorescence microscopyover 5 years performing three-dimensional in vitro mammalian cell culture experiments to assess cell viability/ toxicity, proliferation, and migration in biomaterialsover 2 years prior research performing biomaterials research in tissue regeneration technologies in in vivio animal models, post processing of samples (molecular biology, histopathology)over 2 years prior research experience involving materials characterization using rheology and mechanical testing methodsFamiliar with animal handling and surgeryObsessive attention to detail, planning, and ability to trouble-shootPreference will be given to individuals with at-least five first author publications, and track record of grantsmanship, and scholarshipsExcellent written and verbal communication skills along with data capture, recording and analysis and experience with study designAn independent thinker with entrepreneurial spirit, and a drive for resultsWilling to travel (15-30%) for performing research studies at contract research organizationsMust have at least at least a 3 year work authorization in US (without need for sponsorship)Lab Address: 110 Canal St, 4th Floor, Lowell MA 01852
