Summary of Position
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be directly responsible for the design, prototyping, testing, and functionality of subsystems within Fortify s 3D printers. You will interface with a highly interdisciplinary team to help integrate electrical, embedded, and materials disciplines into a seamlessly integrated system. A Principal Mechanical Engineer should expect to own the designs of systems involving motors and moving parts, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
Duties and Responsibilities Mechanical design for Fortify s Fluxprint system, including technical ownership of highest-risk projects Own designs from prototype and proof-of-concept through production Test and validate design performance Contribute regularly to system design brainstorms & design reviews Influence Fortify s hardware development strategy
Required skills 10+ years of professional experience designing mechanical systems BSME or equivalent Can present a strong portfolio of mechanical design, prototyping and testing experience CAD: Master modeling, surfacing, management of large CAD databases DFM for injection molding, sheet metal, machining, die casting, extrusion DFA for large assemblies Data-driven design approaches Design of electromechanical systems from concept to production Designing products for customer user experience Mechanical FEA of assemblies Managing engineers to deliver on technical project goals, timelines and risks Deep knowledge of systems engineering, including integration of electrical and embedded systems General knowledge of material science History of impacting companies development strategies in previous roles Strong communication skills
Highly desirable additional skills Basic firmware coding capabilities in C to test electromechanical systems and gather data Data analysis coding skills in Matlab or Python Thermal FEA and CFD
