Etsy is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Marketing Technology team, building a platform to enable Etsy to understand its customers better and reach them through a variety of channels. Our goal is to enable our marketing team to deliver compelling content to the appropriate audience through whichever channel is most effective, and enable our marketers to measure the impact of all of their work. Our projects include things like building feeds to syndicate our catalog of millions of items to advertising partners, working with our data scientists on predictive analytics, and insuring that marketers can easily roll out strategic marketing campaigns across our site for big product releases.
We are looking for someone who can lead an engineering department with multiple managers and sub-teams, and who can partner with product and marketing leadership to build a platform that enables us to make the most of our investment in marketing.
This is a full-time role based in Brooklyn, NY.
About the Role:
* You will have the opportunity to set and drive the future technical direction of Etsy's Marketing Technology Platform. * You will collaborate with our marketing department and with our product management team to create a long-term strategy for ensuring that marketing has the tools it needs in order to be successful. * You'll be expected to provide technical expertise when we evaluate vendors and service providers in the payments area. * Your reports will include 3 engineering managers, each with teams of 6 to 8 engineers.
* You have experience working with marketing tools like customer data platforms, marketing automation platforms, or email service providers. * You possess a strong technical background, ideally with some experience building data pipelines that connect to third parties. * You have strong knowledge of web analytics and web analytics tools. * You are comfortable working with groups outside engineering and translating high-level business requirements into technical architecture. You should also be able to comfortably communicate with non-engineers about the technical details of our payments platform. * You have a consistent track record of recruiting both managers and engineers. * You are an excellent coach, mentor, and developer of both managers and engineers.
