Primary Focus:

Design facilities and provides technical assistance to field personnel as member of Region Technical Staff.

Member of Project Group, responsible for design and installation of new and replacement equipment for natural gas compressor stations and pipelines.

Provides training for operating and maintenance personnel for new facility installations.

Performs Project Coordinator duties for assigned Capital and O&M projects, including preparing work scopes, specifying pressure containing and motion restricting materials, reviewing field labor and equipment time estimates, and coordinating construction activities with field personnel.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Test/implement/maintain a system optimization tool currently being developed.
  • Utilize simulation models to develop, execute, manage and monitor asset optimization plans which:
  • a) Minimize / optimize compressor energy usage:

    i) Fuel

    ii) Electricity

    iii) Impeller recommendations

    b) Maximize pipeline capacity and operating flexibility

    c) Reduce outage impacts (planned, unplanned)

    d) Maintain system reliability

    e) Decrease non-energy operating costs

  • Facilitate short-term capacity opportunities and support Marketer Services in the development and execution of these plans.
  • Develop improved processes and analysis techniques to optimize facilities utilizing the system simulation models (operational models).
  • Create Operational Capacity Postings and support Scheduling on other ad-hoc requests.
  • Ongoing support of Spectras line pack program.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and maintenance of key Spectra US information systems:
  • a) Decision Support System

    b) Focus Business Reports

    c) Load Forecaster

    d) PipeSim

  • Assist / support discretionary capital project development / implementation.
  • Enhance and maintain collaborative working relationships with System Planning & Storage, Transmission, Gas Control, Transmission & Storage Operations, Scheduling, Marketer Services and Real Time Business Applications.
  • Support storage inventory management on a as-need basis.
  • Qualifications:

    Required:

  • Four-year Engineer Degree.
  • Two four years of engineering experience with natural gas pipeline systems.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Engineering related work associated with piping systems and industrial plant equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage, set priorities and establish goals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer applications such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Project and Lotus Notes.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two four years of engineering experience with natural gas pipeline systems.
  • Familiar with Pipeline Safety Regulations, DOT, CFR Title 49, Part 192.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project types and workload.
  • Experience with engineering project management.
  • Experience with Gas Control, and Transmission & Storage Operations.
  • Basic understanding of pipeline and storage commercial operations and of energy markets.
  • Knowledge of Spectra US assets.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and programs by demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and promptly identify potential problems and take corrective action before they become crisis by using analytical skills to reach a logical conclusion.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent human relations, influencing, and listening skills to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with other departments to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write in a clear, concise, and organized manner using correct grammar.
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Bending and Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. (6) hours per day
  • Light Carrying: Physically transporting items weighing less than 15 pounds from one location to another
  • Handling: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm
