The candidate will provide scientific, engineering, and technical assistance (SETA) support to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in the Biological Technologies Office (BTO). The candidate is requested to support the development and management of current and planned programs at the intersection of marine biology and technology. Current and planned programs aim to leverage marine organismal behavior and bioinspired technologies to solve difficult Department of Defense problems. Ideal candidates will have experience in marine biology, modeling, and machine learning as well as previous experience in providing direct support to a DARPA Program Manager in the development of new start programs, the source selection process, and the oversight of program metrics, milestones and deliverables. Candidates should have strong technical writing skills, ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences, digest basic and applied research across areas of biotechnology and apply to DoD capability gaps, and demonstrates a willingness to explore the scientific literature for emerging biotechnology.
Candidate must have or be able to obtain an active security clearance sufficient to allow unsupervised entrance and work within the DARPA facility.

Occasional travel of up to weeks duration away from DARPA HQ, Arlington, VA, may be required.

Required Skills:

  • Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Oceanography, or related field
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance at minimum
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in marine biology, modeling, and machine learning
  • Excellent organization, communication, and coordination
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences, digest basic and applied research across areas of biotechnology and apply to DoD capability gaps, and demonstrates a willingness to explore the scientific literature for emerging biotechnology.
  • Desired Skills:

  • Previous experience in providing direct support to a DARPA Program Manager in the development of new start programs, the source selection process, and the oversight of program metrics, milestones and deliverables.
