The Role

An automated guided vehicle (AGV) makes lights out manufacturing and distribution possible by moving product within a process without human involvement. This requires excellence in mechatronic design, as well as, cutting edge software. Working within a global group, the Electrical Engineer will apply knowledge of control loops, electrical power distribution, safety controllers, and emerging technologies to create a growing set of vehicles that make this future trend a reality.

The Electrical Engineer reports to the Electrical Engineering Lead in North America and works as a part of the Vehicle Mechatronics group within Mobile Automation Product Development. Entrepreneurial thinking, the ability to design and innovate quickly, and sound engineering skills are key for a successful candidate.

The working environment is fast paced. Each team member works in a multi disciplined team innovating new features and capabilities in addition to being driven by a multi year roadmap.

AGV technology at KION is based on 35 years of real world application with over 8,000 AGVs being provided to customers so far.

R esponsibilities:

  • Development of innovative designs for control, communication and charging.
  • Drive vendor product life cycles to meet the needs of new and innovative designs
  • Risk assessment and documentation in Sistema
  • Develop designs for global and local markets
  • Schematic development and documentation.
  • Test plan development and support.
  • Supplier and component identification/selection.
  • Provide support for Customer Service and issue resolution.
  • What We Are Looking For

    Experience/Degree Required:

  • Minimum 4 year degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2-5 years engineering experience in hardware design or mechatronics field.
  • Experience/Skill Preferred:

  • Masters in a related engineering discipline, preferred
  • Design and implementation of cable harnessing
  • Demonstrated ability to develop control systems using CAN and ECU concepts
  • Knowledge of Sick safety hardware and programming
  • Knowledge of Curtis amplifiers
  • Experience with E-Plan CAD system
  • Experience with AC motor controls and control logic
  • Understanding of UL and CE standards
  • Experience with PLC design and I/O bus systems
  • Good communication with other engineering disciplines and manufacturing
  • Participation in standards community
