Scope of Position:

To plan, support, or lead work streams or tasks on Ceramic Firing equipment projects supporting a global manufacturing organization, including:

  • Provide technical feedback on project scope and budget
  • Support or develop equipment and project timelines, and manage to ensure schedule compliance
  • Support or lead equipment and process projects and ensure compliance to safety and environmental requirements
  • Support development of new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and methods
  • Improve existing manufacturing equipment processes and capabilities

Day to Day Responsibilities:

To provide engineering expertise and leadership for equipment and process technologies within the Environmental Technologies Division Engineering Firing Technology group. Lead firing technology and equipment project work streams or sub-teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Role includes individual contributor, technical leadership, and project leadership responsibilities
  • Project work scope typically includes design, development, manufacturing installation, start-up and acceptance
  • Manage internal Corning and external vendor resources to complete project work
  • Lead, plan, organize and execute work-streams on projects to deliver improvement and step change capabilities
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges
  • Support development and execution of firing technology strategy, roadmap and project portfolio
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Apply process engineering knowledge, skills and experience from concept (including early stage new product development) through delivery of process and equipment at manufacturing locations

Projects Involved with:

Developing new and improving existing ceramic firing manufacturing technologies, equipment and methods. Applying expertise to problem solving, developing design alternatives and requirements for project teams and engineering groups. Developing methods and equipment processes to improve quality, cost and efficiency of fired part attributes.

Role Within Group:

  • Provide project leadership, technical and equipment engineering leadership/ skills to meet department goals and objectives
  • Member of Division Engineering Firing Technology group
  • Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, materials engineering and upstream process guides to deliver step change and improvement of firing technology capabilities

Travel Requirements: You can expect about 25% travel but can vary dependent on project assignment. Possibility of international assignments of 3+ months in duration.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Your typical work schedule will be 8-5pm M-F although flex time is possible to support project assignments. Off-hours conference calls in support of international projects may be required several times per month.

Required Education and Experience:

You should have a BS or MS in an engineering discipline (mechanical, thermal, chemical, ceramic, electrical or materials preferred) with 3+ years experience in manufacturing or engineering. Leadership demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing as well as:

  • Technical competence in mechanical, thermal, systems, ceramic or process engineering.
  • Proficient people management and development
  • Experience successfully developing and delivering technical projects to manufacturing.
  • Experience with ceramics processing or related technologies.
  • Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods, such as 6-Sigma.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated results developing and delivering step change innovations to manufacturing
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments methods and application of Six Sigma methods
