Scope of position This position of Senior Research Scientist, Optical Physics is in the Micro and Nano Optics (MNO) department of the Science and Technology Division of Corning. MNO combines deep understanding of optical systems with fundamental research in structured materials to develop new imaging, display, and solar energy solutions. The candidate should have a track record of combining optical design with fabrication and assembly to demonstrate novel sensing, imaging, and display systems. Our projects are fast-paced, and we expect our scientists to rapidly build up new experimental, analysis, and design capabilities as the need arises. As part of Corning Global Research we leverage world-class capabilities in optical metrology, material finishing, and replication in our 2,000,000 ft2 laboratory in upstate New York and our research centers across the world. From consumer electronics to semiconductor lithography to remote sensing, MNOs scientists understand our customers needs, translate those needs into hypotheses, and execute the design, modeling, and experiments required to test those hypotheses. Day to Day Responsibilities: + Develop optical component designs for display and remote sensing applications + Model, design, and measure optical structures that produce desired scattering and diffractive properties + Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and execute multi-disciplinary experiment plans + Develop and maintain a state-of-the-art understanding of remote sensing, computational imaging, and/or display systems technology + Develop subject matter expertise in computational imaging/remote sensing and provide consulting to Corning business units Travel requirements (please note if international): + < 10%, some international travel required Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 9-5 Education and Experience: Required education: MSc.
