Our client is a leading international player within the chemical industry. With multiple production facilities in the U.S. and abroad, they produce a wide variety of products including specialty chemicals, resins, coating, and food/pharmaceutical additives. This role will require a person with a high degree of independence, creativity and the ability to manage individual projects in support of four small to medium sized chemical plants. These PSM regulated plants utilize batch reaction processes and are in MA, RI, GA and IL, which will require this person to travel an estimated 25%. This person will be based at the Boston plant that also serves as the U.S. headquarters for this division and has recently undergone a $30-million upgrade, including new DCS control systems. The Boston plant is a 200-person facility and has a large contingency of engineers, chemists, EHS, and distribution personnel. 50% of the role will be doing preliminary design on expansions and retrofits, including heat and mass balances, and working with external engineering firms and Corporate Project Engineers. 25% of the job will be overseeing recipe changes, calculating plant capacities, and developing new process ideas, and the last 25% will be focused on PSM, ensuring all designs and process changes are safe. B.S. in Chemical Engineering degree with 5+ years of in-plant experience out of any PSM regulated chemical plant. Must have experience with conducting preliminary design of small or large projects, performing heat and mass balances, equipment sizing and specification, process optimization and some experience with PSM (there are in-house PSM experts). Pluses would be experience with scale-up, project management, process capability studies, batch reaction, resins, and experience with E&C firms. Candidate must be able to relate to all levels of people.
