This engineer will lead and contribute to Automation Engineering projects for new product development, capacity expansion, continuity of supply, and maintenance of business functions.


Lead engineering efforts in support of the design, development, and scale-up of automated manufacturing systems for medical devices. Responsible and accountable for the successful delivery of new manufacturing processes to production and for improvement of existing processes.

Specification, identification, selection, and installation of automated manufacturing equipment.

Write User Requirements Specifications for automated equipment and work directly with suppliers throughout the project lifecycle to obtain quotations, ensure compliance, complete FAT's/SAT's, and maintain schedule and budget.

Lead and participate in design reviews, FMEA's, problem-solving, etc.

Critique product designs for manufacturability and product specifications for attainability, using data to support recommendations.

Startup and troubleshoot new equipment and processes.

As appropriate, implement or recommend changes to machine hardware and software.

Responsible for development of processes that consistently yields parts conforming to specifications.

Conduct technology transfer of new products and processes.

Evaluate new manufacturing technologies.

Lead process qualifications and validations with generation of appropriate documentation (impact analyses, validation protocols, test procedures, etc.). Execute assigned validation testing, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documented results.

Scope of Position:

Represent the department in a matrix organization on cross-functional teams and with external suppliers.

Deliver capital equipment solutions valued from $250K to $50M for capacity expansion and new product development projects.

An individual contributor responsible for all aspects of delivering manufacturing solutions. Provides training and coaching to junior staff members and technicians as needed.


BS Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or similar.

Candidates with strong backgrounds in either Machine Design or Controls Engineering may be considered.

Hands-on experience with 3D design software (SolidWorks or Inventor) OR typical Controls Engineering software packages (AutoCAD, PLC/HMI/SCADA/Robotics programming packages).


Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of automation systems.

5+ years' experience as a Project Engineer in either an end-user or OEM environment

Project Management experience a plus.

Experience working in a FDA-regulated environment (Medical Device/Pharma) strongly preferred.

Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.

Position requires strong communication and interactive skills, capable of working independently or on project teams as required.
