Job Summary

The Principal Process Engineer is accountable for providing company-wide process engineering leadership and technical support to Avantor operations and leading the design, engineering and execution of major projects. The Principal Process Engineer leads the process safety, manufacturing technology development and engineering design and implementation of major projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Interfaces with a variety of company functions such as Operations, Procurement, Quality & Compliance, Supply Chain, Distribution, R&D, Finance, Legal, Marketing, Product Development, etc. Oversees both internal and external engineering activities of Avantor. These activities may include process improvement, expansion of existing assets or new process/plant installation. Collaborates with Production Leadership, Procurement and external vendors to implement/lead business improvement plans. Accountable for defining the best available manufacturing technology and building a roadmap for implementation around the manufacturing network. Works in conjunction with all plant engineering disciplines, R&D and customers to support new products and new manufacturing technology platforms in operations Directs contractors and hourly employees to monitor processes, collect data, install equipment and make process modifications Develops, designs and implements capital projects to support plant and company-wide initiatives Will be called to assist in high-priority troubleshooting throughout the operations network Performs other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Education:

Bachelor s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field required

Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience required

Skills/Competencies:

High purity/cGMP chemical processing/engineering

Demonstrated large capital project engineering and execution expertise

Demonstrated complex problem solving experience

Working knowledge and experience in the major chemical engineering unit operations, e.g distillation and separation purification technologies, chemical synthesis/reaction, process control, automation, environmental control systems, heat exchange, pumping and piping systems, etc.

Working knowledge of financial/cost systems and standard operating procedures process

Knowledge of PSM, FDA, cGMP, ISO 9000 and applicable state and federal environmental regulations

Demonstrated organizational, technical leadership, presentation and communication skills

Ability to understand analytical procedures, quantify analytical results, and make adjustments and corrections as needed

Ability to partner effectively with all functions and levels of the organization

Detail orientation

Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive for results

Other Skills:

Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Excel and Word

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE :

The Principal Process Engineer reports directly to the Vice President, Special Operations, Engineer & CapEx. He/she interfaces with various levels of the organization. The Principal Process Engineer works closely with manufacturing, understanding the processes and the cause-and effect-relationship of the manufacturing cycle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment is a manufacturing facility, and the appropriate PPE will be required in designated areas.
