Job Summary

This position is accountable for developing and implementing systemic improvements to our existing supply chain processes and is a key strategic role with an emphasis on material planning, procurement, and inventory control. This role will also play a key role in the S&OP/SIOP (Sales Inventory & Operational Planning) process. This role is accountable for improving the supply chain by implementing and optimizing supply management and planning practices, reducing lead times and lowering unit costs. This encompasses providing supply chain leadership on establishing standard work, developing new practices, and contributing to the SIOP processes.

As Avantor Supply Chain continues to expand its influence throughout the North America manufacturing organization, this role is key in implementing best practices, providing leadership and development of procurement personnel, and establishing supply chains for the continued growth of our business. This position assigns tasks to Supply Chain personnel located in several facilities within North America to prioritize strategic initiatives, maintain competitiveness, and enhance our capabilities.

On a secondary level this role includes the development and execution of sourcing strategies under guidance of Strategic Sourcing to ensure alignment with Company strategies for supplier selection, cost, quality, risk mitigation and performance. He/she will actively collaborate with the Product Management and Commercial functions on new product development to optimize raw material selection for new products in an effort to minimize supply risk/cost while meeting quality/process capability requirements. This position will manage the execution of sourcing supporting product development while meeting sample quality and cost targets whilst ensuring that the Business growth goals are met.

The NA Supply Chain Manager is expected to manage and analyze inventory levels across the plants within the North America supply chain, review and develop safety stock strategies, organize and lead key monthly inventory reviews. These reviews will include: MRP, E&O, Expiry, Safety Stock adherence, Days of Supply (On Hand), Inventory Reserves, and other inventory cost control analysis. Additional expectations will include analyzing usage and recommending control strategies, monitoring of business activity as it relates to raw material supply, and demonstrating effective cost reduction strategies.



Works collaboratively with the Product Management and Commercial teams to develop and deliver supply chains that meet the commercial and operational objectives of Avantor. Manages supply chain personnel across North America to provide or support supply management, planning, distribution, warehousing, transportation, and compliance functions and other related supply chain activities to execute key business supply chain strategies. Works collaboratively with sourcing and supply personnel to continuously improve the replenishment process by ensuring forecasts, net requirements, and replenishment orders are communicated and aligned with operational efficiencies. Supports business process management by participating and helping lead SIOP process in NA as requested. Establishes clear metrics, aligned with global policies, to manage the supply chain processes and results in all areas. Establish procedures, based on best practice, to drive cost, quality, and service improvements that improve our internal processes and enhance our ability to serve our customers. Accountable for the output and effectiveness of supply chain team members and for building and sustaining an effective team capable of producing those outputs. Aligns direct reports work to enable the effective flow of work. Utilizes performance management tools routinely to establish the right conditions for productive work. Ensures budgets are established and manages to meet the budget commitments. Develops strong, two-way, trusting relationships with each employee. Integrates the work of the team across the organization to enable international cross-functional working.


Identifies materials and manufacturers that will support the Companys new product portfolio.

Develops, maintains, and executes sourcing strategies for raw materials without standard industry specifications under direction of Strategic Sourcing Managers. Help develop new suppliers to gain alignment with the Companys direction on quality, cost, innovation, and service. Collaborate with Product Management, Sourcing, and R&T to ensure new suppliers meet requirements. Analyzes the regional supply landscape, conducts market analysis, and identifies potential suppliers as requested. Collaborates with contract manufacturing to implement contract manufacturing policies for standardization; monitors regional supplier performance to ensure compliance. Collaborate with commodity managers on negotiating strategies. In close cooperation with Global Procurement develops risk mitigation plans for key commodities; collaboratively execute. Leads the efforts to resolve supply issues, price and quality risks to maintain business continuity. Aids in measurement supplier performance and drive suppliers continuous improvements in cost, quality, service, and innovation. Works collaboratively with R&T, Operations, Marketing, Quality, and Finance functions on strategic supply issues and opportunities. Participates productively as a team member, contributing actively to the team process and executing tasks as required. Works collaboratively across the global organization, enabling the work of others. Monitors, tracks and publishes key performance metrics by vendor, commodity, and region to improve supplier performance supporting the needs of the Company (PPV, on time delivery, supplier report card, etc.). Responsible for all supply chain and procurement performance reporting. Proactively manages data and conducts analysis as appropriate. Acts as and aids in data process management. Supports procurement team members with data analysis in an effort to drive productivity. Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.



BA/BS Degree in Business, Engineering, Science, Supply Chain or related field required.

Masters Degree/MBA preferred.

Six Sigma Green Belt/LEAN Expert certification preferred.


  • 8-10 years of experience in a leadership role in Supply Chain or related field. Minimum of 3-5 years in procurement of chemical/biological commodities or related materials and 3-5 years experience in production planning/scheduling.
  • Chemical/pharmaceutical/microelectronics experience required.
  • Contract negotiation experience required.
  • Proven track record in managing cross functional projects.
  • Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of chemistry/chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate successfully, build effective teams, set direction and get commitment from employees.
  • Strong problem solving skills, solution focused.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and cross functionally with various levels of the organization.

  • Functional and technical work experience with ERP systems (SAP) and strong functional Excel skills. Access/database, technical skills desired.

    Works closely with multiple functions of the Company, including R&T, Operations, Global Procurement, Marketing, Quality, and Finance. Within North America, works collaboratively with sales and marketing leadership while managing the efforts of Supply Chain resources in each business unit.


    The work environment is an office setting. The duties of the job will require the role to travel on occasion.
