Postdoctoral Fellow: Mammalian Cell Engineering for Multispecifics

The Amgen Postdoctoral Program is committed to providing future scientists with an enriched environment to encourage innovation that will contribute to the generation of human therapeutics.

We have an exciting new opening for a post doctoral researcher in the Protein Engineering group within the larger Amgen Biologics Optimization department. This research project is aimed at investigating the expression pathway of novel and non-native multispecific molecules (bispecific antibodies, trispecific antibodies, etc). Understanding and improving how standard cellular machinery (transcription, translation, folding, assembly, and secretion) is influenced by these non-native molecules will have broad and practical implications for the field of protein engineering and design.

The successful applicant will perform independent research within the context of a highly collaborative environment and with access to state-of-the-art technologies and resources focused in cell biology and protein engineering but also mammalian expression, protein purification, and genomics.

The postdoctoral fellow will not only obtain scientific training but also be directly exposed to the industrial environment at Amgen. The postdoc will participate at group meetings and seminars at Amgen. This postdoc project is designed to not only provide opportunity for descriptive, basic research that can be published in top tier journals, but also establish a new tool box with enhanced host cell lines key to support multispecific molecules in Amgen's pipeline. Naturally, it will also provide the postdoc a possibility of scientific excellence and industrial recognition.

The assignment length is expected to be 3 years long.
Basic Qualifications

  • PhD. or Doctorate degree to be completed by XXXX 2020.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genomics, or Biochemistry.
  • Proven expertise and publications using current gene-editing technologies, including CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genome engineering, as applied to mammalian cell systems.
  • Proven expertise with Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis.
  • Proficiencies in mammalian cell culturing and molecular biology technologies. Understanding of quaternary structures of proteins would be a plus.
  • Record of independent critical thinking and the ability to design, execute, and interpret experiments, as exemplified by high quality peer-reviewed publications.
