Basic Job Functions: Generate metal building design solutions that safeguard the intended occupants while providing cost effective design solutions that \"take care of our customers\" as well as generate profit for American Buildings Company and Nucor. Assist in project meetings, estimating, research and development as requested. Actively manage projects through effective communication and documentation with supervisor, customers, and teammates. Demonstrate the ability and desire to \"value-engineer\" projects in order to achieve an efficient and cost effective design to maximize profitability. Design projects with accuracy and within the time frames consistent with the position expectations. Candidate must be open to future relocation if promotion opportunities arise within Nucor Corporation and candidate is considered the best choice by that facility. As knowledge and experience is gained, candidate must be willing to check and seal the work of his or her co-workers. Assure designs are processed in accordance with the ABC purchase order and the governing codes and standards which are indicated in the purchase order. Demonstrate the ability to positively influence his or her teammates and evolve with the change in business demands. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an (ABET) accredited school with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. Engineer Intern Status or have taken Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and awaiting results. Able to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) registration within 5 years and become registered in all of the states serviced by the South Division. Willingness and ability to independently travel to job sites and other Nucor facilities, possibly on short notice. Preferred Qualifications: Design experience in the metal building industry with P.E. Certification. Ability to properly interpret Architectural and Structural Drawings.
