Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development

Allakos Inc. is a dynamic clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class antibody-based therapeutics to treat allergic and inflammatory diseases.

The company is seeking to recruit a Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development to join our expanding team. The scope of the position and requirements are described below.

Position Summary:

The Associate Scientist is responsible for upstream process development of recombinant proteins. This person will perform process development and process characterization studies using the ambr250 automated bioreactor system, 10L bench scale bioreactors, and lab-scale harvest filtration systems. The successful candidate effectively executes experiments and clearly communicates the results through presentations and reports. This person will also perform tech transfer to CMOs as well as clinical and commercial manufacturing oversight of CMOs. This person will work closely with the Purification and Formulation Development, Process Analytics, and Quality Assurance groups. This position reports to the Director, Upstream Process Development.

Responsibilities:

* Execute cell culture process development and characterization experiments using ambr250, 10L bioreactors, and lab-scale harvest filtration systems independently

* Transfer processes to contract manufacturing sites

* Oversee clinical and commercial manufacturing at CMOs

* Provide person-in-plant (PIP) support for critical manufacturing operations

* Maintain key lab instrumentation

* Document all work clearly and accurately using an electronic lab notebook

* Analyze and present results in meetings and prepare reports

* Interact with Purification and Formulation Development, Process Analytics, and Quality Assurance teams

Qualifications:

* B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biology, or other relevant life sciences field with at least 6 years of relevant industry experience for B.S. and 4 years for M.S.

* Must have hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture process development, be highly proficient executing bioreactor experiments, and have strong data analysis skills

* Familiarity with statistical design of experiment (DoE), process characterization, and continuous process verification are a plus

* Excellent written and oral communication skills is required

* Ability to travel up to 10%
