POSITION SUMMARY The Project Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out the duties of the Engineering department, including design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation and process improvement. The Design Engineer develops conceptual and detailed designs that ensure a product actually functions, performs and is fit for its purpose. The design Engineer shall work alone or along with a team of other designers and engineers to create the drawings necessary for prototyping and production. The Design Engineer shall study, research and develop ideas for new products and systems: as well as, modify existing products or processes to increase efficiency or improve performance. This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager, and collaborate with assigned Project Manager, System Engineers, Electrical Designer/Programmers, sourcing and supply chain personnel, purchasing and shop/assembly teams on assigned projects. Provide expert consultancy within their area of specialism i.e. Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Drafting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinates and in support of project teams: Develop drawings, design parts, specify components, route systems (mechanical/pneumatic/electrical) and create assemblies utilizing 3D CAD in accordance with applicable Engineering Standards Reduces product cost and improve design performance working with other groups on value engineering initiatives Utilizing specialized software to create models and drawings of products to develop conceptual design and prototypes fabrication drawings Acts as sole and/or lead designer for assigned projects and/or support specific projects as the technical representative on the project as requested or directed Meets with suppliers, clients and project stakeholders to review designs and alter as needed Presents designs and perform demonstrations of product prototypes for the approval of management, stakeholders and clients Evaluates the function, safety and appearance of products to ensure they have a practical rationalized cost for the design Ensures systems, components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry safety standards Travels in support of engineers or sales for the development of new solutions for new markets that may lead to new systems and vacuum products Analyzes existing products with a view to improving their efficiency and overall performance. Mentors other designers upon request or as directed in technical areas; Assist engineers with the development of their understanding of the area in question Supports Sales in Application Development (as needed) Works with the Agile teams develop and/or promote technical solutions which support the business requirements within their area of expertise. Being accountable for specific deliverables and profitability in relation to the development of a project, support or may lead the technical activity within their area of specialism. Preforms peer review of other designers, participate in project design reviews as requested or directed with assigned project team, Production and Purchasing department personnel Provides technical support during assembly and testing of systems for products Creates of technical reports and documentation as required, requested or directed Performs Engineering calculations, use reference tools, standards and tables for the creation of mechanical and/or electrical mechanical systems, components or sub-assemblies.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or related field: (Mechanical Engineering): Required or 10+ years equivalent specific experience in design, drafting, new system and product development and that existing systems/products/component/assemblies: Required
Experience: 8 plus years of experience in industrial mechanical rotating equipment, piping, valving and tank design including operation, and installation.
Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, Microsoft Suites (database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.). In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software, Auto CAD and Enterprise Resource Planning software
