Accelevir Diagnostics, a start-up biotechnology Company in Baltimore, Maryland, seeks a Scientist or Senior Scientist desiring to work in an intellectually challenging and fast paced environment. Our core focus is developing and commercializing assays for detecting ultra-rare analytes to support drug development and companion diagnostics. This position requires a self-starter who can participate in the growth and expansion of the company through (1) designing, developing, and implementing experimental approaches to new projects, (2) leadership on core projects, and (3) support of ongoing commercial activities. Primary responsibilities include the design, development, and qualification of molecular assays for detecting and quantifying persistent HIV-1 in biological samples. The successful candidate must be able to independently formulate and execute experimental plans, display strong bench skills to support research detecting ultra-rare targets, and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Specific Responsibilities: Design, develop, optimize, and qualify quantitative molecular or sequencing based methods to measure viral RNA and/or DNA Lead experimental studies to support research and clinical collaborations Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific journal publications Present scientific findings at internal meetings and external conferences Assist in scientific grant development and grant writing to secure funding for scientific endeavors Communicate and collaborate with internal colleagues, external collaborators, and customers Education and Experience Requirements: PhD required for Scientist role PhD and related post-doctoral or industry experience required for Senior Scientist role Strong background in translational immunology, virology, and/or molecular biology relevant to human disease Strong track record of impactful publications and presentations Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Scientific leadership and innovation, as demonstrated by: Ability to identify and initiate new projects Creativity applied towards problem solving Demonstrated bench laboratory experience in: Molecular assay design, development, and qualification Nucleic acid isolation, manipulation, and analysis, including RT-qPCR, ddPCR, next-generation sequencing, or other relevant diagnostic platforms Sequencing data analysis to inform assay design and/or as a component of assay analysis Primary human cell purification, manipulation, flow cytometry analysis, and culture Critical analysis of data using statistical tools and compilation of technical reports Strong verbal and written communication skills Candidates should demonstrate eagerness and ability to learn new techniques. This position requires work with blood or tissue from donors with infectious diseases, including HIV. Biosafety training will be provided. Immediate start date available | Formal resume required
