The person hired for the position of Advanced Product Engineer will primarily be responsible for actively supporting safety initiatives and driving improvements in quality, service, and cost. Developing and leading programs to improve product and process/quality understanding while working in cross functional teams to ensure continuous quality improvement. The engineer will support the Extrusion Coated Film and Polyester film products produced for FMRD Film in Decatur, AL. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Development and implementation of improvements related to safety, quality, service, and cost in the Decatur Extrusion Coated film and Polyester film areas Ability to perform root cause analysis and apply systematic problem-solving skills Development and implementation of cross-functional projects, plans, and programs in support of business and strategic plans new process start-ups, new process technology integration, aggressive cost reduction, and supply chain improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools Assist local and global manufacturing teams on rapid resolution of customer complaints; including timely response, communication and implementation of corrective actions Lead and support quality improvement projects Overseeing in-process laboratory testing activities and ensuring technicians are effectively trained Interfacing with customers and suppliers, and visiting on-site as needed, to determine effectiveness of root cause corrective action Conducting internal/external audits and responding to customer complaints with effective root cause analysis Develop product standards and other documentation supporting the operation Use Lean, Six Sigma and Value Stream Improvement tools to drive improvements Lead efforts on scale-up of new products and work on cross-functional teams Work with internal and external resources as needed to accomplish objectives As necessary, ability to cover production runs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment Basic Qualifications: Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of two (2) combined years quality and/or continuous improvement experience in a private, public, government or military environment Certification as a trained internal or lead auditor cGMP Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline Experience in batch extrusion, film making, coating, and/or winding in a private, public, government or military environment Strong organization, communication, project management, and coaching skills Six Sigma or Quality Improvement training/certification Experience working on a cross functional team Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation) Microsoft Office proficient Travel: May include up to 15% domestic/international Relocation Assistance: Are authorized EXPORT CONTROL Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
